Windows Moves Forward, Leaves Internet Explorer Behind

Windows 10 will mark the beginning of the end for the Internet Explorer brand. Microsoft is currently researching names for its next generation internet browser, currently called Project Spartan.

Internet Explorer isn't going away anytime soon, but Microsoft is definitely shifting focus away from the brand. Use of Microsoft's native Windows browser has been in steady decline since 2009, with usage converging with Chrome at the midpoint of 2013. From there, market share for Chrome climb while market share for IE continued its decline.

According at The Verge, Microsoft market research has revealed the strength of its own name over the Internet Explorer name in reference to a possible browser.

"Just by putting the Microsoft name in front," of an unrevealed browser name being used for market testing, "the delta for Chrome users on appeal is incredibly high," said marketing chief Chris Capossela during a speech at Microsoft Convergence.

. The upcoming browser will have full integration with Cortana, Microsoft's AI assistant currently available on Windows Phones. In fact,

Internet Explorer will still be around, mostly in enterprise editions of Windows 10 for compatibility purposes, but the former king of internet web browsers will fade away. Oh, how the mighty have fallen.
