Acclaimed horror game Amnesia: The Dark Descent will be released on PS4 as part of a three game collection that also includes its sequel and a spinoff. The announcement was made on the PlayStation Blog by Thomas Grip, creative director at Frictional Games, the studio behind the first game in the series.
"We never brought Amnesia to consoles. Over the years, we've been close to making it happen, but deals either fell through or we simply didn't have time for it," he said. "It's now time to change that. On the 22nd of November, Amnesia will be available on PlayStation 4 and for the first time console gamers will be able to take part in the terror."
The second game included in the pack is Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs, which was developed by Dear Esther and Everybody's Gone to the Rapture studio The Chinese Room. The third game making up the "triple-bill of horror titles" is Amnesia: Justine, a "shorter game, taking the form of a series of trials and is heavily inspired by films such as Saw and the historical persona of Elisabeth Bathory."
A price for the Amnesia Collection was not mentioned and it is unclear whether the game will only be a download or if a physical version will be available.
In GameSpot's Amnesia: The Dark Descent review, Brett Todd said the game is "undoubtedly going to take a place among the most frightening horror games ever made."
He continued: "This is one uncanny, unsettling, and just plain old scary experience, especially with the lights out and your headphones on."
It sequel was given similar praise by Todd. In his Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs review, he said "you probably shouldn't __play the game if you've had a bad day.
"This is a captivating adventure, but it's also a very dark and disturbing one that touches on depressing real-world themes and doles out psychological horror along with monsters and gore."
