Lord of the Rings author J.R.R. Tolkien's story about Beren and Luthien--which was riffed on in the movies for the love story between Aragorn and Arwen--will be released as a book. According to Entertainment Weekly, Harper Collins announced today that the book, titled Beren and Luthien, will be released in 2017, a full 100 years after Tolkien wrote it in 1917.
The mortal man Beren and the immortal elf-maiden Luthien were referenced in The Silmarillion and the story was told in the epic The History of Middle-earth series. The new book will feature sections from the various iterations of the story published previously, alongside art from Lord of the Rings veteran Alan Lee. It will be edited by Tolkien's son, Christopher Tolkien.
The story of Beren and Luthien is also discussed in the special features for Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings film trilogy. It was also a very personal story for Tolkien, as his gravestone refers to Tolkien as Beren and his wife Edith as Luthien.
In other Lord of the Rings news, Legolas actor Orlando Bloom recently shared a cool throwback photo that showed the cast after they got tattoos.
It's been 13 years since the final Lord of the Rings film, 2003's The Return of the King, came out. Jackson went on to make a Hobbit trilogy, which wrapped up with 2014's The Battle of the Five Armies.
No new entries in the series have been announced, but multiple J.R.R. biopics are in the works, according to The Hollywood Reporter. One of these, Tolkien & Lewis, will explore the author's relationship with Narnia writer C.S. Lewis and how he helped convert Lewis to Christianity. The other, called Tolkien, is more of a straightforward story about how he came to write the beloved fantasy series.
