Gears of War 4 has been available for a few days now to those who purchased the Ultimate Edition, but it arrives for everyone else tomorrow, October 11. A new technical analysis video takes an in-depth look at the game on both Xbox One and PC, revealing a strong game no matter where you __play it.
The lengthy video comes from Digital Foundry. It starts out by highlighting some of the visual effects developer The Coalition used before moving into an Xbox One and PC comparison. Digital Foundry states the Xbox One version holds up well even when compared with the PC version's Ultra settings, which is quite the accomplishment.
Later, the video shows off how the PC version's different presets stack up against each other and highlights the impact some specific settings have. It concludes with a frame rate analysis of the campaign mode, which aims for 30 FPS. Digital Foundry says the Xbox One version is the smoothest game in the series, though it noted that there are players who have reported encountering some hiccups. Testing is ongoing with various GPUs on PC, but things look good on that front, too.
Not everything was flawless, as Digital Foundry has some gripes with the particle and fire effects, which can look odd when running the game at higher frame rates on PC. There were also some frame-pacing issues during cutscenes. You can watch the video above for the complete analysis.
As for the quality of the game itself, you can read GameSpot's review for the full rundown. The game launches tomorrow, October 11, though digital copies unlock tonight at 9 PM ET/12 AM ET. For more, check out our roundup of everything you need to know.
