Alongside the main game on consoles and PC, Mafia III's recently announced mobile game launches today for free.
As we noted last month, Mafia III: Rivals is more of an RPG than the game it serves as a tie-in for. If you've ever played Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes, you'll be pretty well-acquainted with the basics: You form a group of mob members that you use in turn-based combat, taking over New Bordeaux and earning new items and weapons to equip them with. You can compete on leaderboards against other players or fight them in real-time.
Rivals is a free-to-play game; you can download it on iOS and Android devices. There are, of course, ways to spend money on it; you can buy packs of in-game credits that can be used to purchase various things.
Mafia III also launches today on Xbox One, PS4, and PC. The PC version is the source of some complaints, as it launched with a 30 FPS cap. Developer Hangar 13 and 2K have said a patch will arrive soon that offers support for higher frame rates. For more, check out our roundup of everything you need to know about Mafia III.
Rivals is the second notable mobile release in as many days, as just yesterday EA released BioWare's Jade Empire on iOS and Android.
